🛂 Entry Requirements

Entry requirements for Spain depend on where you're coming from:

• From the European Union: You only need your national ID card or residence permit.
• From outside the EU: In most cases, you can enter visa-free for 90 days. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months from your departure date.

Have you heard of ETIAS? It's the new “express authorization” you'll need to enter Europe. But don't worry: it won't be in effect until the last quarter of 2026, so for now, you can travel without worrying about it.

🏥 Travel Insurance: Your Best Investment

A medical emergency in Europe can cost more than your entire trip 💸. Better safe than sorry, right?

• Are you an EU citizen? Bring your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC): it will cover you for medical emergencies while in Spain.
• Living outside of Europe? Then travel insurance is a must. It covers everything from medical emergencies to flight cancellations, lost luggage, or those unexpected mishaps that sometimes happen.

🗣️ Language: Don't Worry!

The official languages are Catalan and Spanish, but in tourist areas, many people speak English. And with a lot more friendliness than in other parts of Europe (we're looking at you, France 🫣).

Learn these simple words to get a smile from the locals:

• “Gràcies” (Catalan) or “Gracias” (Spanish) = thank you
• “Hola” = hello

💶 Currency and Money

In Barcelona and all of Spain, the official currency is the Euro (€).

• Avoid currency exchange offices, even in the city center. The commissions are usually high and the rates... not so friendly.
• The most practical and safest option: use an ATM to withdraw Euros directly with your card. Look for bank-owned ATMs, not generic ones like Euronet.

📱 Internet and Connectivity

The internet will be your best travel companion: for translating menus, following maps, stalking that cute tapas bar you saw on Instagram, or not getting lost looking for Gaudí's masterpieces. It will also help you follow our free guided tours of the city.

• Prefer a physical SIM? You can get one in Barcelona from €10 to €20, depending on the carrier and plan. You will need to register with your passport or ID, and in some cases, present a credit card.

🔌 Electricity and Plugs

In Barcelona, they use plug types C and F, with a voltage of 230V.

If your country uses a different type, bring a universal adapter. This will save you from any drama with your hair dryer or phone charger.
