Douro Valley
Terraced vineyards, wine estates with tastings and one of the most beautiful train rides in Europe. Go in September to catch the harvest.
Guimarães
The "birthplace of Portugal": a castle, the Ducal Palace and a lovely medieval old town.
Braga
A city of churches, plus the baroque stairway of the Bom Jesus do Monte sanctuary.
Aveiro
Canals, moliceiro boats, ovos moles sweets and, nearby, the striped houses of Costa Nova.
