Getting there

Flights, trains and ways to arrive

Getting into Milan is the first step to exploring the city of fashion and design. You have several options, and all of them are straightforward.

From Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP)

Milan has several airports, and Malpensa (MXP) handles most international flights. Here's how to get from there to the city centre.

Train: Malpensa Express

  • Pros: fast (about 35–50 minutes) and direct to Cadorna or Centrale station.
  • Cons: less convenient if you're staying far from those stations.
  • Price: €15 one way.

Bus: Terravision, Autostradale, FlixBus

  • Pros: cheap, and arrives at Milano Centrale.
  • Cons: depends on traffic (about 50–70 minutes).
  • Price: from €10 one way.

Taxi

  • Pros: door to door, no hassle.
  • Cons: the most expensive option.
  • Price: fixed fare of €104 to anywhere in central Milan. Only take the official white taxis from the rank.

Private transfer

  • Pros: maximum comfort, with a driver waiting for you – ideal for groups or lots of luggage.
  • Cons: expensive.
  • Price: from around €100–150.

From Milan Linate Airport (LIN)

Linate is the closest airport to the city centre and mainly handles domestic and short-haul flights.

Metro (line M4)

  • Pros: direct to San Babila in the centre, and very quick (about 15 minutes).
  • Price: a standard €2.20 city ticket – just tap your contactless card at the gate.

Taxi

  • Pros: quick and direct.
  • Price: around €30–40 to the centre.

Arrival tips

  • Book ahead: buy train or bus tickets online to save time – and sometimes money.
  • Travel passes: if you'll use public transport a lot, look at the Milano Card or the ATM day passes.

Expert tip

For most travellers landing at Malpensa (MXP), the Malpensa Express offers the best balance of speed and price. If you land at Linate (LIN), the M4 metro line is by far the most efficient way into the heart of the city.

Ready to go

With these options in mind, your arrival in Milan will be as smooth as the city's design – and you can start exploring straight away.
